Google User Data and Server-Side Tagging
WP Provider offers a Server-Side Tagging feature that allows our customers to implement and manage Google Tag Manager server containers for improved website analytics and tracking. This feature requires access to your Google account data to function properly. Below we explain what data we access, how we use it, and your control over this data.
Data Accessed from Your Google Account:
When you enable Server-Side Tagging features, our application accesses the following types of Google user data from your Google Tag Manager account:
- Google Tag Manager Account Information: We access your list of GTM accounts to allow you to select which account to work with.
- Container Configuration: We read and modify your GTM container settings, including server containers, web containers, workspaces, tags, triggers, variables, and clients.
- Environment Settings: We access container environment information including authorization codes needed to connect your containers.
- Container Versions: We create and publish container versions when you deploy changes through our platform.
How We Use Your Google Data:
We use the Google user data exclusively to provide the Server-Side Tagging functionality you have requested. Specifically, we:
- Create and Configure GTM Containers: We automatically create and configure Google Tag Manager server containers and web containers in your Google account based on your specifications. This includes setting up the necessary clients (such as the GTM Web Container Client) to receive data from your website.
- Configure Tags and Variables: We create and update Google Analytics 4 tags, Google Tags, and configuration variables (such as Server URL variables) within your containers to enable proper data flow from your website to Google Analytics through your server container.
- Manage Workspaces and Versions: We work within your default workspace to make changes and create new container versions when you're ready to publish your configuration.
- Publish Container Configurations: We publish your container versions to make your server-side tagging configuration live for your website visitors.
- Retrieve Environment Credentials: We access live environment authorization codes to properly configure the connection between your web container and server container.
All operations are performed on your behalf and only when you explicitly initiate them through our platform. We implement server-side tagging following Google's official manual setup guide, which allows your website analytics data to be processed through a server-side container hosted on our managed infrastructure, giving you more control over your data before it's sent to third-party services.
Data Sharing with Third Parties:
Regarding your Google Tag Manager data:
- No Sharing of GTM Configuration Data: We do not share your Google Tag Manager account information, container configurations, or related settings with any third parties.
- Direct Google API Communication: Our application communicates directly with Google's Tag Manager API on your behalf. No intermediaries have access to your GTM data.
- Your Control of Analytics Data: The Server-Side Tagging feature is designed to give you control over where your website's analytics data is sent. Data flows from your website visitors to your server-side container (hosted on our managed infrastructure), and then only to the destinations you configure in your GTM container (such as Google Analytics).
Data Storage and Protection:
We implement the following security measures for your Google account data:
- Secure Authentication: We use OAuth 2.0, Google's industry-standard authorization protocol, to securely access your Google Tag Manager account. You explicitly grant permission through Google's authorization screen.
- Limited Access: Only our application has access to your stored credentials, and they are only used to perform the GTM operations you request.
- Secure Transmission: All communication between our servers and Google's servers is encrypted using SSL/TLS protocols.
- Minimal Data Retention: We only store the OAuth credentials necessary to access your GTM account. We do not store copies of your GTM container configurations, tags, or other settings beyond what's needed for the immediate operation.
Data Retention and Deletion:
- Active Use Period: While you actively use our Server-Side Tagging feature, we retain your OAuth credentials to enable seamless access to your GTM account for making updates and managing containers.
- Token Refresh: OAuth tokens are automatically refreshed as needed to maintain access. Expired or invalid tokens are immediately removed from our system.
- Revocation Process: You can revoke our application's access to your Google account at any time through Google's account permissions page at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
- Request for Deletion: You may contact us at any time to request immediate deletion of your Google account connection data. We will process such requests within 72 hours.
Your Rights and Control:
You maintain full control over your Google data:
- You can revoke our access to your Google account at any time
- You can request deletion of all stored credentials
- You maintain full ownership and control of your GTM containers and their configurations
- Our application only makes changes you explicitly request
- You can export your GTM container configurations directly from Google Tag Manager at any time
Required OAuth Scopes and Their Purpose:
Our application requests the following specific Google API scopes:
- tagmanager.edit.containers: Required to create server and web containers, create and update tags, variables, and clients, and read container and workspace information. This is essential for the core functionality of setting up and managing your server-side tagging configuration.
- tagmanager.edit.containerversions: Required to create new versions of your container when you're ready to save your configuration changes. This allows us to properly version your GTM setup before publishing.
- tagmanager.publish: Required to publish your container versions to make them live. Without this scope, changes would remain in draft state and never take effect on your website.
What our customers say about the WP Provider Service
We just switched our company from a large hosting provider that provided very poor service and used chatbots to WP Provider. The difference real people can make is great: fast response and great results. Keep up the good work WP Provider (and please never switch to chatbots and keep your people employed)!
We have been working with WP Provider for several years and have been very satisfied. First, the hosting is super fast, sites are always up to date and the service is top notch. And quick response to any questions. Can only say: highly recommended!
I first came in contact with WP Provider through a client of mine. Earlier I had heard good reports about this party. Now I could experience it myself. I was immediately positively surprised by the adequate and fast support offered. A big plus is also the accessibility and personal contact.
Extremely professional, knowledgeable about the ins and outs of WordPress. Good quality for little money, especially when comparing prices. Highly recommended.
I am very happy with the service of WP-Provider. I myself have a lot of contact with Marco. He responds quickly and is very helpful. WP-Provider is one of the few hosting companies you can call if you have a question.

WP Provider helped me to run a web application on a subdomain, we would not have been able to do that ourselves without their help. Very fast and adequate help. Great!
It's nice working with WP Provider. A number of my clients' websites are hosted at WP Provider. If something is wrong, it is always solved immediately. WP Provider is also available by phone, which I find a big plus. In short: short lines, super service and reliable.
